Original Item: Just released from European Military Stores a very limited quantity of original WW2 German Army Dark Lens Goggles used as antiglare protective eye wear issued to Mountain Troops, Motorized Units, MG34 & MG42 Machinegun operators, and possibly Luftwaffe pilots.

We believe these to be 100% authentic WW2 issue. Original pair has circular dark shaded lenses with steel surrounds mounted in leather (or perhaps synthetic Leather) blue/grey (shades vary) material complete with two ventilation ducts on either side to combat condensation. Complete with adjustable 3-piece strap, the side sections are cloth while the center adjustable section is elasticized. Each goggle comes complete in original imitation leather pouch. The pouch is ink stamped UMBRAL 75% inside of closure flap. 75% represents protection grade of tint. This particular model was know as the UMBRAL. The lens and steel frames are easily removable.

In addition to the case, every pair of goggles comes with an original delicate wax paper instruction sheet (in German of course), headed " Schutz des Auges" and gives Manufacturer's name and address: CARL ZEISS of Jena, Germany. Carl Zeiss is well known today as a high quality lens manufacturer (SONY Cameras!).

We received all of these goggles in their original cardboard outer boxes each containing Six Goggles in Pouches (6 Stuck) and clearly have never been issued since manufacture in the late 1930s. The storage boxes show slight storage deterioration/discoloration and it is evident these not have been opened for over

70 years. Storage boxes come with purchase of 6 goggles, please specify if you want a box.

These Goggles are a truly unusual and rare WW2 well documented German Army Accessory. See the fabulous book "Deutsche Soldaten" page 213, items 60/61 and 62, this exact goggle is featured. First time offered, limited quantity as described and absolutely genuine.

Condition is generally very good, but will vary, some goggles show storage age with slight surface rust and minor staining. For our very best condition goggles special hand select is highly recommended. Note: Leather color, lens tint and strap colors may vary.

Format: Kindle
This book was fascinating. I had never heard about this invasion before and it was interesting to learn about this part of African history. As always, these books by Captivating History are enlightening and enjoyable.

...awkward book to rate...
Format: Kindle
This is an awkward book to rate as: the facts all seem to be there, hut the presentation is a touch below par for a 'Captivating History' book. There is a light garnish of literary and grammatical errors, a dose of waffle here and there, the chronology can jump back and forth and - I may have been distracted, but: I do not recall reading about what ultimately happened to Haile Selassie Most of the final, extended, chapter just repeats what has previously been covered. STILL - it's a most interesting period in history.

A not often studied part of African history
Format: Kindle
This book presents the history of Ethiopia up to the Italian invasion as a backdrop giving the culture and the nature of the Ethiopian Empire. Ethiopia has a history of more than 3,000 years and converted to Christianity about the same time that the Roman Empire did. During the medieval period remained strong in Christianity and traded with the East as well as with medieval Europe. It was one of the most advanced countries in the world at that time. When Italy started trying to build up an empire and catch up because of its lag behind the rest of Europe in Empire building, Ethiopia was one of the last parts of Africa that was not yet a colony of a European power. Italy and made a failed attempt at conquering Ethiopia but when Mussolini took power in Italy he decided to rebuild the grandeur of Roman Empire. This book takes you through the war with Italy and tells it from the Ethiopian side as well as presenting some of the concepts of the Italian side as well. Hey you will also become acquainted with the major players on both sides of the Italian Ethiopian war. It is well researched and it describes the war, the struggle that both the Ethiopians and the Italians had during the war and the final conclusion and how the war ended. The book has been well researched and is very interesting. I found this to be an excellent book to explain the war in North Africa as well as the struggle for independence of the Ethiopians. This is a book that I would like to have had when I was teaching world history. I highly recommend this book and feel that it is a great addition to anyone's library.
